“Without a doubt one of the best meals I have ever experienced. Where are you Michelin, you should definitely be visiting this establishment!! Magnificent food, world class service. I have never tasted Halibut like this ever Well done chef Alan Lucas, Caroline and team.”
“Beautiful meal, excellent service, attentive and helpful. I really enjoyed choosing from such an interesting menu. Great quality/price rapport – terrific food. Thank you for a lovely evening.”
“Only stayed for one night but the greeting and service matched the previous reviews and star rating. Setting is ‘far from the madding crowd’ with beautiful views to Downside Abbey … our room was immaculate with home baked cookies …. highly recommend.”
“The Holcombe Inn is charming and offers amazing views all around. The hosts, Allan and Caroline made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived and were attentive throughout our stay. The food was out of this world.. the flavours and presentation were second to none. The smallest details did not go unnoticed.”
“The restaurant had a lovely atmosphere in the evening and appeared to be popular with the locals too. The breakfast was wonderful and offered a vast choice… I opted for homemade grenola with the creamiest yoghurt and a homemade fruit compote, then the lightest scrambled eggs with smoked salmon, finishing off with croissant and home made jam. WOW – a truly wonderful stay!”
“Stayed here last night. The Hotel is very stylishly decorated and everything a Country Hotel should be. Caroline and Alan have great staff. The room was lovely and quiet and vey comfortable. We ate in the restaurant and had coffee in the bar. The barman was very knowledgable and knows the area very well. Highly recommended for a weekend away in Somerset.”
“This was the perfect weekend away for me and my husband after months of work commitments and no break from the children. The Holcombe Inn delivered in every way: lovely room (Old England), delicious meals, huge bath, friendly hosts and just a really luxurious all-round experience. The area is also stunning with great views. Can recommend a trip to Wells. We will be back, thank you!”
“We had our office summer party at The Holcombe Inn this week…socially distanced of course! The food here really is a cut above and the idyllic location, overlooking the rolling green hills of Somerset made for a perfect experience. The staff at The Holcombe Inn could not have been more welcoming. VERY highly recommended.”
“One of the very few places I would return to.I like comfortable places to stay, staffed by knowledgeable and caring people, who’s primary concern is that you enjoy your time with them. The Holcombe typifies this with the owners and staff all seamlessly working together to ensure your enjoyment.
The room was spacious, very well decorated and with nice details in the presentation. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom roomy and well fitted out. What struck me was how the décor was so well considered and looked “room specific” with items of good quality and interesting design. The room really does feel well thought through with nice touches in order to fully maximise a guest’s enjoyment without being pretentious.”
“The bar is well stocked with local offerings as well as the traditional mass market drink. Considering we were coming from the other side of the country, it made our stay so much more enjoyable to be able to have a local experience and leave the usual home drinks behind. That also applies to the food. Locally sourced where possible and perfectly cooked. Presentation and flavours are superb. The menu is small but when cooking to a high standard it is crucial to not be a “jack of all meals” but totally master those you offer. Alan really does turn out fabulous food, well balanced, expertly prepared and presented beautifully. It is clear to anyone who visits, that Alan has a wealth of experience and imagination to offer, which he shares readily through all the delights he creates.”
“The restaurant is well thought out and a joy to sit in, with more well considered touches in evidence. Caroline, who runs the restaurant and the accommodation, does so with the glide and poise of an experienced and relaxed hotelier, with everything flowing from start to finish. She exudes a confidence that gives one the comfort of being in very safe, professional and capable hands. You never feel rushed and always very welcome. We spoke to others in the bar who were all of the same opinion. Some were returning guests, which I feel is the greatest compliment. The big question I always ask is, would I return. That’s easy. Yes, most definitely.”
