Sustainability

We are passionate about the future of our planet and try our best to reduce food waste by using as much as we can of everything we purchase, we buy free range & locally, and work with our suppliers to reduce as much of the plastic packaging as possible and encourage everything to be packed in paper.

We have also endeavoured to buy our furniture, linens and tableware from The British Isles.

Gardens

Our kitchen garden and poly tunnel take over the majority of our gardens as our passion has always been to grow more and deliver a fantastic garden to plate experience.

Our gardeners work tirelessly to deliver for us and we have created more raised beds for growing all year round. We endeavour to use all our produce and if it’s not on your plate it will be added to our stocks.

Outside the restaurant for the summer months we have a lovely bedouin tent covering part of the garden that can be used for dining during the day along with a swing & see-saw for the children.

History

Steeped in history, Holcombe is a small parish in the northeast of the Mendip Hills in Somerset. The Inn is set on the highest point with views across to Downside Abbey.

Holcombe was a settlement in Domesday Book and had a recorded population of 8 households in 1086 putting it as one of the smallest settlements recorded.

The Old Church of St. Andrew is nearby, once known as “the plague Church” and more recently used for filming Poldark.

About us

The Holcombe is owned and run by Alan and Caroline, both trained chefs who are passionate about growing food, sourcing local produce & protecting the environment.

After 30 years running successful London based catering & event companies, they decided to “escape to the country” and bought The Holcombe in November 2019, a few months before the pandemic hit! Whilst closed they took the opportunity to redecorate The Inn.

They look forward to welcoming you now they are open again.
